It's time to decorate the Youth Room!

I promise I am going to be more diligent about posting to our Trek Blog! I hope you are all doing well and I just wanted to remind you that Decorate the Youth Room Day is Saturday, October 22nd from 9am - 2pm. We'll have fun painting and eating pizza! Come on out its going to be fun! Also think of your favorite Bible verse to write on the wall!

1st week of Trek: Be Salt of the Earth!

Matthew 5:13-16

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

This week at Trek we learned about being "Salt of the earth". Have you ever tasted something that didn't have salt on it yet? Was it bland? Did it not have a lot of flavor? We took turns trying some unsalted walnuts, and most of us thought they were tasteless (a few of you were just hungry anyways so you wanted more! lol) But the point was, salt is what makes things taste good! Not only does it make things taste good, but it preseves things.

When I was in Argentina, the gaucho (or cowboy) I met was aging a ham. To age ham you add lots of salt to it to preserve it. It was delicious...and quite salty.

To follow Christ means we should be "Salt of the Earth". What does that mean? That means when other people meet us they should get a "taste" of what it means to follow Christ (or see an example of what it means to follow Christ). Also, we live in a world where bad seems to be winning much more so than good. We need to be "salt of the earth" to preserve the good in the world, which comes from Jesus Christ.

How can you be salt of the earth in your life in middle or high school?

• Be kind to others at school
• Help a kid that is being bullied
• Make new students feel welcome at school
• Volunteer at a homeless shelter or your school
• Give clothes or food to the needy
• Tell others about God

Welcome to Trek!

School can be rough, there is homework, tests, homework, friendships to make, homework, sports to play, homework, oh and did we mention homework yet? School is a lot of work, and you have many things putting pressure on you from school, home and your friends. But you are not alone. God is right there with you and he can help you through the toughest days you will face even your grade! School is a long “trek” and we’re here to help you on your way! You’re invited to Trek on Sundays 4-6pm.

What is Trek? Trek is a time for 6th-12th graders like you to come together to study the Bible, make new friends, fellowship with one another, play fun games, and give encouragement to each other for your upcoming week.

We plan to have a lot of fun this year not just with games but also learning about God and how to put our trust in him. We invite you to join us on Sunday afternoons from 4pm - 6pm and bring a friend or friends too!
